Siren or myth?
Synopsis
Partenope is a woman who bears the name of her city. In Greek myth, Parthenope is the siren who committed suicide after failing to enchant Odysseus. His body was carried by the tide to the place where the Castel dell’Ovo is now built, and thus gave the name to the city that would later become Neapolis, Naples. In the film, Parthenope is the personification of the city of Naples.

Warmth Written by Peter Gregson Speakers: Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipczak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Klouda. I was somewhat disappointed with his last film, È STATA LA MANO DI DIO, and with PARTHENOPE I remembered what it was about Sorrentino’s films that touched me so much. Everything is beautiful, from the city of Naples and its pristine waters to the still unknown goddess Celeste da Porta. Add the Fellini-esque recordings and Lele Marchitelli’s wonderful jazz music: you get perfection.
to the world for what it is
You might think he’s making another GRANDE BELLEZZA, but that’s not the case. Once again, Sorrentino manages to surprise us by treating what is ultimately the same theme in a new way. The film asks questions without answering them, as if to say that you should stop looking for answers and start observing beauty. As a result, the viewer leaves the theater not with answers, but with an interesting outlook on life, and finally death…Oh, and I almost forgot, the main character of the film is Gary Oldman.
I sincerely hope/think it will win the Palme d’Or
Although his screen time is limited, he delivers an amazing performance. He then withdraws as if urging us to enjoy the film. He convinced us (with the presence of the cast) to go see it. So I know not everyone will like it – some scenes are pretty weird, I have to admit – but for me, this movie gave me everything I did (and didn’t expect) when I walked into the theater.
