Dan Aykroyd was the only original SNL actor to read the script

Synopsis

On October 11, 1975, at 11:30 p.m., a wild bunch of young comedians and writers changed television forever. Find out what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes before the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live (1975). Matt Wood plays John Belushi on Saturday Night Live, see the other cast members and their real-life counterparts. When the show started live, John Belushi entered the picture 39 seconds late.

Door: All night?

In fact, he came right in. Lorne Michaels: Look, my name is Lorne Michaels, I’m the producer on Saturday Night Live. Lorne Michaels: [sarcastically] Yeah, all night. The film opens with a quote from Lorne Michaels: “The show doesn’t go on because it’s over, it goes on because it’s 11:30.” Featured in Eddie Murphy, Hollywood’s le roi noir (2023).

Saturday Night Live has some entertaining scenes and moments, and even the first half is pretty engaging, as this biopic is about the first night of SNL (exactly 90 minutes into the movie, I made a mistake. I’ll be back), and Lorne Michaels got into the chaos of every episode that came before him, acting like he wasn’t even entirely sure what was going to happen. Smith as Chevy Chase (probably the most interesting character, considering how other characters like Milton Burle have set him up and treated him) and Dan Aykroyd’s performance is probably the best and most engaging. Reitman has a problem that biopic directors sometimes face – and in his case, he probably knew one or two of these types in his diapers – where the feeling that the subject matter is SO important and what happened in this case resonates.

So some may need this release

in the entire history of modern comedy and pop culture and television as a medium… well, we *get* it, especially when you showed it all the first time (and the third, fourth, or fifth time I lost count in the last third, especially with the whole Willem Defoe character thing (he tries his best, but this guy is a one-note joke, like so many others here), and if you happen to go into this with just casual admiration, I might find it even more awesome to see this with my better half who has never seen a full episode of that 70s show (many of you haven’t either, seriously, I know I didn’t see it until the DVD came out a few years ago), and not only was I surprised, but the portrayals of John Belushi as a complete scoundrel and Jim Henson as a genius, making him a rancid piece. man (no shade to actor Matt Wood), and when it comes to skating at Rockefeller Center (in October), Reitman has settled for sentimentality that is just trash and doesn’t affect. If you’re feeling the sentiment coming from the last few parts of this article, I understand, because it’s easy to drink in when Reitman has already transformed and made so much history in this one-night OMG-athon.

I find that the moments where Reitman and company look at this story with “Wow This Was GROUNDBREAKING You guys” take the glasses off what’s really working here, which is showing the smaller moments and the process — again, showing us how confused and conflicted people can get about BTS and the myriad problems that came with making it on TV in 1975 instead of telling us — and creating real character dynamics that either hit or miss
